Shri Ramesh s/o Shri Gajanan Patel resident of village Malgaon district- Khandwa is a farmer having 30 acre of land , out of which 15 acre is under cultivation of onion. Generally onion is planted in fields after growing nursery from seeds but sh. Ramesh Patel grows onionfom small bulbs ( Kali) of onion. He takes sunhemp or dhencha during start of rainy season and then planted onion bulbs on 14-15 August. He use only organic inputs like PSB, Azetobactor, tricoderma, vermin compost, Nadep compost, biogas slurry, neem oil, plant extract repellent etc. He use 6 qt of onion bulbs for sowing and got about 80 quintals of onion in mid October month when prices of onion is at its highest. He has earned Rs.55,000 per acre during last season from onion crop.
Alongwith the onion crop, Sh. Ramesh Patel takes cotton and soybean in kharif and wheat in rabi season. Productivity from his land is about 1.25 to 1.5 times than other nearby farmers. He has got 20 qt/acre wheat, 8-10 qt/acre soybean and 8 qt/acre cotton during previous year. He is using improved irrigation systems and implements like drip irrigation, sprinkler irrigation, seed cum fertilizer drill, m.b. plough, , spiral grader etc. Last year he has earned Rs. 8.0 lacs from onion and Rs. 3.5 lacs from other crops while facing water scarcity at his farm.
